House
of Delegates Meeting Rescheduled for November 7
The bar’s annual House of Delegates meeting in Bend on September
13 failed to achieve the required quorum. Under the rules, a quorum must be present
in order to conduct official business. There are 218 total delegates and 110
would haveconstituted a quorum. Only 108 appeared so the HOD was two delegates shy of the
number needed.
The meeting has been rescheduled and will take place at the Oregon State
Bar Center on Friday, November 7 at 1:30 p.m.

New
Bar Cards Have Been Mailed
The OSB has mailed new bar cards to all active members. Members should sign and
carry the card as it may be required for entrance to jails and some federal and
state courthouses. The courts are working with the bar on consideration of security
access to the courthouses for bar members, but the outcome on this issue is still
uncertain. The need for new cards was also due to the bar changing physical locations
and raising awareness of an extra sixth digit in bar numbers.
This extra sixth digit has always existed internally as a “check digit” to
prevent data entry errors in bar records. Members may continue using the five-digit
number but will increasingly see the six-digit number on bar communications.
