Oregon Attorney General Candidates Hold Public Debate
The Administrative Law Section is hosting a debate between Greg Macpherson and John Kroger, candidates for Oregon Attorney General, on April 17, 2008. The forum will give members a first-hand opportunity to assess the candidates. The candidates will be taking questions from the moderator, Lane Shetterly, the audience, and each other.
Don’t miss this opportunity to interact with the candidates and hear their positions on a variety of topics. The debate begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Oregon State Bar Center, 16037 SW Upper Boones Ferry Rd, Tigard, OR 97224. To reserve a place, please email Janice Krem at janicekrem@involved.com.

The bar is currently seeking candidates for the upcoming OSB Board of Governors
election. Regions 1, 3 and 5 each have one seat open to active bar members. The
filing deadline is May 13, 2008.

MCLE Changes Approved By the Oregon Supreme Court The Supreme Court recently adopted amendments to the Minimum Continuing Legal Education rules regarding Elimination of Bias credit requirements. The amendments make the following changes to the rules:
- Elimination of Bias credits will now be referred
to as Access to Justice credits.
- The requirement for members whose reporting period
ends on 12/31/2008 will remain the same – members
in a three-year reporting period must complete 3.0
Access to Justice credits; members in a shorter reporting
period must complete 1.0 Access to Justice credit.
- Beginning with the reporting period ending 12/31/2009,
members in a three-year reporting period will need
to earn three Access to Justice credits only in
every other reporting period.
- Members whose three-year reporting periods end
12/31/2009, 12/31/2010, and 12/31/2011 are not required
to complete Access to Justice credits during those
reporting periods.
- New admittees admitted after January 1, 2009 will
be required to complete a specific three-hour course
during their first reporting period.
- Access to Justice credits in excess of the requirement
can be carried forward into the next reporting period,
but will count only toward the general credit requirement.

Pro Bono Fair on April 15
The 4th Annual Pro Bono Fair will be held on April
15 at the Governor Hotel in Portland. Along with
an awards ceremony to celebrate pro bono work, the
event will feature two free CLEs: “Planning for Incapacity: Disability Trusts, Guardianships/Conservatorships and Power of Attorney” and “Advocating for Immigrant Victims of Crime.”
The CLEs run concurrently beginning at 2:30, with
the awards ceremony and keynote speech by Steven Wax

Oregon State Bar Members’ Library Now Open
The OSB Members’ Library is now open to the public. Bar members will need to check in at the OSB reception desk on the second floor of the new bar center to get a key card to access the OSB Legal Publications suite.
Internet access is available for laptop computer users. In the library, members can use the OSB Legal Publications, Oregon Revised Statutes, Oregon Laws, Oregon case law reports and several different law reviews. |
