May 14 Filing Deadline for OSB Board of Governors Candidates
The Oregon State Bar is currently seeking candidates for the Board of Governors. There are three board positions open to active bar members in Lane and Multnomah Counties. The board consists of 18 members, 14 active bar members and four members of the public. Board terms are for four years and begin on Jan.1, 2014.
The board holds five regular meetings a year, on Fridays and occasionally on the following Saturday morning. Nearly half of the meetings are in the Portland area and the remainder at locations around the state. Board committee meetings are held at the bar center in Tigard, three to four weeks prior to regular board meetings. Board of Governor members serve as liaisons to the Professional Liability Fund, bar sections and committees, as well as numerous other groups.

OSB Launches New Military and Veterans Law Section
In November 2012, in response to meeting the needs of Oregon service members and their families, the OSB Board of Bar Governors authorized the establishment of a new section: Military and Veterans Law.
The mission of this section is to provide more legal help to Oregon’s service members and their families, help train lawyers in claims and other areas, and lobby the legislature for appropriate changes to statutes affecting service members.
You do not need to be a veteran or service member to be a member of this section — all you need is a concern for the issues and a desire to help. Your membership will help gather funds for training and put on educational programs to help provide better representation to Oregonians.
If you are interested in joining the Military and Veterans Law section, visit www.osbar.org.
OSB Annual Awards Nominations Due June 28
The bar is currently accepting nominations for the annual awards to honor outstanding lawyers, judges and citizens. The Oregon Bench and Bar Commission on Professionalism is also accepting nominations for its Edwin J. Peterson Professionalism Award. The deadline for all nominations is 5 p.m., Friday, June 28.
The individual awards and their nomination criteria, forms and other information can be found at www.osbar.org. For additional information, contact Kay Pulju at (503) 620-0222, ext. 402, (800) 452-8260, ext. 402, or email kpulju@osbar.org.
Join the PLF Board of Directors
The Board of Directors of the Professional Liability Fund is looking for one lawyer member to serve a five-year term on the PLF Board of Directors, beginning Jan. 1, 2014.
Directors attend approximately six board meetings each year, three of which are held in Tigard, and three in various locations throughout the state. Between the scheduled meetings, directors participate in telephone conference calls, as well as various committee meetings. Board members are also expected to spend a considerable amount of time reading claim reports and other materials.
PLF policies prohibit directors and their firms from prosecuting or defending claims against lawyers.
Interested persons should send a brief resume by July 31 to Ira R. Zarov, Professional Liability Fund, P.O. Box 231600, Tigard, OR 97281, or email it to iraz@osbplf.org.
