BEAVERTON POLICE SEEKS YOUR SUPPORT – The Beaverton PEER Court is seeking local attorneys to fill two volunteer open positions as acting judges for the 2013-2014 PEER court docket. Youth Peer Court allows an alternative to Juvenile Court (and a possible criminal record) for youths who have committed first time misdemeanors and violations. The youths are judged through a court system of their peers. The attorneys, clerks, bailiffs, and jurors are volunteers from 12-17 years of age. The defendants have admitted guilt and are standing trial to be sentenced by their peers. Jury duty allows the defendants to switch to the other side of the legal process, which restores self-esteem and promotes accountability for their actions. The commitment would be for two hours every 6 weeks. A great way to make a difference in the community by mentoring youth interested in law. If you interested please contact: Consuelo Star, Community Outreach Coordinator, email@example.com ; (503) 526-2553.

There will be an orientation luncheon for tour guides (both new and veteran) on Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Gus Solomon Courthouse in downtown Portland (RSVP requested). Being an attorney is not required though obviously very helpful. Get more information, sign up to volunteer, and RSVP for our Court Tour Guide Orientation on our website at http://www.classroomlaw.org/programs/courthouse-experience/#guide. Questions?
