Leadership and Volunteer Opportunities
All active OSB members will soon receive the Leadership and Volunteer Opportunities brochure and application form by mail. The brochure provides a description of each volunteer opportunity and outlines the time commitment required for each board-appointed position.
Application forms are due July 31, 2009.

Most appointments are for terms of three years; however, if you are unable to make this lengthy commitment we suggest you consider volunteering on an episodic group. Serving on an episodic group allows you to determine the number of hours you give while continuing to enjoy the benefits of volunteering.

When submitting applications it is recommended that you attach a resume and a letter of interest. The Board of Governors is committed to ensuring that bar groups reflect the diversity of the membership, and they make every attempt to place each applicant in a volunteer position.

Join the OLF board
The board of directors of the Oregon Law Foundation is looking for a lawyer member to serve a four-year term on the OLF board beginning in January 2010. Directors attend approximately four board meetings a year, as well as various committee meetings.

The goals of the Oregon Law Foundation are to support access to justice in Oregon by obtaining and distributing funds, to promote diversity in the legal profession and to educate the public about the law.

Reminder: July 31 Deadline for Open PLF Board Positions
The Professional Liability Fund seeks two lawyer members to serve five-year terms on the PLF Board of Directors, beginning January 2010. Directors attend approximately six two-day board meetings each year, as well as various committee meetings, and are also required to spend a considerable amount of time reading board materials between meetings and participating in telephone conference calls.

PLF policies prohibit directors and their firms from prosecuting or defending claims against lawyers. Interested persons should send a brief resume by July 31, 2009 to: Ira R. Zarov, Professional Liability Fund, P.O. Box 231600, Tigard, OR 97281-1600.

UTCR Changes Effective Aug. 1, 2009
Chief Justice Paul J. De Muniz has approved changes to the Uniform Trial Court Rules that become effective on Aug.1, 2009. Changes of particular interest include new rule 2.130 and related forms for protecting confidential information in family law cases. The UTCR committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 16 (and 17, if necessary), 2009. The committee welcomes proposals for change to the UTCR. Please submit your proposals by Sept. 1, 2009, to utcr@ojd.state.or.us or to UTCR Reporter, Supreme Court Building, 1163 State St., Salem, OR 97301-2563.

Reminder: OSB award nominations due July 31
Although the deadline is approaching, it’s not too late to help honor Oregon’s finest lawyers, judges and citizens by submitting nominations for the following OSB Awards: OSB Award of Merit; Wallace P. Carson, Jr. Award for Judicial Excellence; President’s Affirmative Action Award; President’s Membership Service Award; President’s Public Service Award; President’s Public Leadership Award; and the Edwin J. Peterson Professionalism Award.
