Winning Settlement & Mediation
with Judith Wolf
Friday, June 17, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
5.5 general CLE or practical skills credits and 1 ethics credit
Oregon Convention Center, Portland
From your client’s perspective, settlement is a desirable way to reach a quick, economical, agreeable resolution to a problem. From your perspective, settlement or mediation saves the time, expense and risk of trial, while giving an equivalent result — if done right! The savvy with which you negotiate your clients’ positions determines and defines your success. Even when mediation is the chosen (or mandated) forum for resolution, you are still an advocate and still the champion of a cause. Your challenge is to guard your client’s interests while simultaneously maintaining the underlying relationship. This requires special skills that you can learn, and this seminar is where you learn them. Note: This program does not train mediators. It is for lawyers who represent clients in all settlement venues.

Step outside the lecture hall and earn CLE ethics credit in a unique environment. Eighteen ethics scenarios and a set of multiple-choice answers are your course materials. Three other players complete your team. As you play each hole, discuss a scenario and your answers. At the conclusion of the game, head to the "19th Hole" for a panel discussion of the scenarios and answers. Non-golfers may participate by riding the course and answering the questions at each hole.
