APPELLATE ATTORNEY POSITIONS – OPDS — The Appellate Division of the Office of Public Defense Services is comprised of appellate specialists who regularly appear before the Oregon Court of Appeals and the Oregon Supreme Court primarily in criminal appeals of indigent defendants. The office engages in one of the most intensive and demanding appellate practices in the state. Like their counterparts in the Solicitor General’s Office of the Oregon Department of Justice, OPDS attorneys not only represent their clients with extraordinary skill and zeal in the state’s highest courts, they contribute directly to the rational development of Oregon’s criminal laws and procedures. As a result, OPDS is committed to recruiting, training, supervising and retaining highly skilled appellate lawyers who will continue to develop one of the finest appellate practices in Oregon. Deputy Defender II — An applicant for the Deputy II position must have significant experience in criminal law; prior appellate experience is preferred but not required. The caseload is comprised of direct appeals in simple and moderately complex felony cases and a small number of post conviction appeals. Applicants must have strong aptitudes and interests in legal research, analysis, and writing. The salary range is $3,832 to $5,386 per month, plus benefits.
