VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

UNACCOMPANIED AND UNDOCUMENTED CHILDREN in federal custody are under the care of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). ICS is part of ORR's legal access project, facilitated through the Vera Institute of Justice. ICS provides these juveniles with presentations explaining their rights and conducts individualized legal screenings. Many of these children are eligible for legal relief including asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, U or T visas or adjustment of status. ICS is permitted to provide information to the children to assist them in preparing for court appearances and can participate in court as a "friend" of the court. However, ICS cannot use funds from this project to provide direct representation. That's why we need help. If an attorney has only a few hours to allot for pro bono work, this time can make a real difference in a child's life. For more information, please contact: Barbara B.
