Satisfy you MCLE requirement with this interactive session. Using hypotheticals, learn what your duty to report is, when it applies and what exceptions exist to your reporting duty. Also learn what "abuse" is, how to report it, and the consequences of failing to report. Hosted by Helen Hierschbiel, Deputy General Counsel with the Oregon State Bar.

Geoffrey Bruce is a senior partner with Maginnis & Carey, one of the oldest and largest certified public accounting firms in Oregon. He has over thirty years of experience in public accounting in both local and international practices as a certified public accountant. In his early career, Mr. Bruce spent six years developing audit experience with a major international accounting firm working in Europe, Africa and the USA. This experience included extensive responsibility for the development and management of audit, accounting and management advisory service engagements for a wide variety of industrial, commercial and professional clients. He has had detailed involvement in audits and reviews of manufacturing and wholesale distribution companies, and familiarity with industry practices and potential problems. In addition, Mr. Bruce serves on the Executive Board for New Avenues for Youth, a local charity working to help homeless youth gain job and life skills to get them off the street, as well as serving on the Foundation Committee for the Albertina Kerr Center.

Alan Rappleyea, City Attorney, has been with the City of Beaverton as the City Attorney since September 2003 and specializes in land use. Mr. Rappleyea works very closely with the Mayor of Beaverton, the Beaverton Police department and City Counsel in addition to running the City Attorney’s Office. Prior to employment with the City he served as Washington County’s Senior Assistant County Counsel for approximately 7 years and as Crook County Counsel and Planning Director for 4 years prior to that.

Lisa Ludwig is a Northwest native and graduate of the University of Oregon. She began her law career at Multnomah Defenders, Inc. in Portland, and spent two years handling misdemeanors there before moving to another indigent defense office, Rieke & Savage, where Ms. Ludwig represented indigent clients on all types of felony cases. After two years at Rieke, Ms. Ludwig went into private practice. She was recently named Oregon Superlawyer and enjoys speaking to young lawyers about the practice.
